Howard Tag, founder of Tag & Associates, provides strategic pricing and reimbursement counsel to drug, biological and medical technology developers, and to investment, law and communication firms that serve health care manufacturers. He represents clients to Medicare, Medicaid, other government payers and private insurers for health technology assessment, coverage and pricing decisions.
Since 1985, Howard has been involved in the development and launch of several hundred drugs, biological, diagnostics and devices, and is responsible for the adoption of many government and private insurance coverage policies for his clients' products. Tag & Associates is routinely retained by technology buyers and sellers for pricing/reimbursement due diligence in transactions. Howard is author of the AMCP Guide to Pharmaceutical Payment Methods, published by the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy. He speaks at industry conferences, most recently on Drug Pricing: Manufacturer, Payer, Prescriber and Patient Perspectives at the 2015 AMCP annual meeting. Since 2014, Howard has been a guest presenter at Columbia University’s Master of Science in Bioethics program.
Prior to founding Tag & Associates in 1998, Howard was Executive Vice President of S&FA, an industry leader in market access programs for pharmaceutical companies, purchased by PAREXEL International. Howard also has government experience as Executive Director of the New York State Legislature's Joint Committee on Consumer Protection. In Washington, he was government affairs counsel to J. C. Penney Company for national and state health policy issues.
Howard is an active member of the DC and New York State Bars, and volunteer attorney for the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, specializing in obtaining disability and health care benefits for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. He is a graduate of St. John’s University School of Law and State University of New York at Albany.
